Advantages of the Daidalos technology
The Daidalos trans-catheter heart valves are compressible valve prostheses to be delivered through a catheter or delivery tool.
While competing products like the Fortis/CardiAQ valve (Edwards Lifescience), TMVI/Twelve valve (Medtronic), and Tiara valve (Neovasc) make use of leaflet attachment, and the Tendyne valve (Abbott) is fixed to the LV apex with a tether, and the Highlife valve (Highlife) is fixed to a separate subannular ring, the Daidalos compressible (trans-catheter) mitral and tricuspid valves make use of a proprietary simple attachment technology to the valve annulus only.
These competing products may lead to LVOTO by immobilizing the valve leaflets and may require chronic anti-coagulation due to potential stasis of blood between the valve leaflets and the device. Leaflet attachment may be difficult in large flail leaflet segments and thickened leaflets, like in mitral stenosis, or thin leafets like the tricuspid leaflets. Obviously leaflet attachment technology can not be used once the leaflets are removed or destroyed. By these limitation of alternative attachment technologies the applicablity of these products will be limited to certain treatable patient groups only.
